Education at the New Room
New programme 2020-21
Online lessons & assemblies . Safe visits to schools . On site visits
We are currently very aware of the challenges that schools continue to face with regard to COVID-19. We’ve been trying to think of ways we can help.
We’ve now completely updated the New Room’s education programme to include a range of resources that schools and groups can use to engage with the story of John Wesley, his actions and his beliefs in creative and safe ways.
Lessons are now available for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 which can be delivered online by our education team via Zoom. These lessons can also be presented in class by a visiting member of our education team, or through a fully risk assessed site visit to the New Room.
Please click on the Key Stage you are interested in for further details:
We tell the story of ‘John Wesley and his Horse’ and link to activities which can be completed in the classroom.
Three different online lessons are available which introduce John Wesley and the New Room and explore Wesley’s fierce opposition to the eighteenth century transatlantic slave trade. One of these is a brand new lesson (produced in conjunction with RE Today) called ‘A Tale of Two Statues’ which compares and contrasts the lives and statues of John Wesley and Edward Colston.
Online lessons are available which introduce John Wesley and the New Room and enable classes to explore John Wesley’s opposition to the eighteenth century transatlantic slave trade.
All lessons come with follow up ideas for future work. For more information please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Our Education Officer can be booked to speak about John Wesley at school assemblies for all key stages.
RE Days for Primary Schools
Our education team has devised a Primary RE Day which introduces a whole school to John Wesley. We can run lesson plans and assemblies for Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 across a day in school. Please contact our Education Officer for details.
Our Education Officer and members of the education team are all DBS checked.
Other Groups for Young People
