How to support and donate to The New Room

This historic Grade 1 listed 18th century building relies on the support of visitors to remain open as a place of prayer and worship in Bristol city centre. As the ‘cradle of Methodism’, it must be kept in a good state of repair in order to operate as a place where people can continue to come and learn about the life and ministry of John and Charles Wesley and the establishment of the Methodist movement.  Any money donated is used to maintain the building and support our mission.  Any time donated through volunteering makes a huge difference to keeping the New Room open to all.

Thank you for your support.

Become a Friend of the New Room

Support the work of the New Room by becoming a member of Friends of the New Room and making a regular donation. This is usually done by Standing Order and if you are a UK tax payer you can make your donation go further with Gift Aid, with no additional cost to you.  The annual subscription is £35 per person or £500 for lifetime membership.  Money raised in this way also supports the work at Charles Wesley's House in Bristol, the other important heritage site in our care.

As well as enjoying the satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing towards the ongoing care of these unique buildings and the mission work that takes place here, as a Friend you will receive invitations to various events and our bi-monthly Friends newsletter featuring exclusive content exploring the New Room collection, archives and more.

A taster of the Friends newsletter, with exclusive articles from New Room historian Gary M. Best, can be read here.

To become a Friend, please click the link above or download and complete the Friends of the New Room Registration Form.

Please return the signed form, your details and payment for the attention of the Secretary of Friends at the New Room to or by post to The New Room/John Wesley's Chapel, 36 The Horsefair, Bristol, BS1 3JE.

Payment can be made by Direct Debit, PayPal or by cheque (made payable to 'John Wesley's Chapel' and not to the New Room, due to bank account identification requirements).

Leave a legacy

Gifts in wills are so important to the ongoing mission of the New Room. A gift in your will can be a lasting legacy to ensure that The New Room can continue long into the future to benefit new generations. The easiest way is to leave a percentage of your estate. You can leave just 1% to The Room and it will really help our work and ensure your kindness is remembered.  Leaving a legacy isn’t complicated, and you don’t have to make a new will if you already have one.  The only information you need to give to your solicitor is our registered charity number 1137957 and our address: The New Room 36 The Horsefair, Bristol, UK BS1 3JE.

You can find our more about Leaving a Gift in your Will here.

Volunteers are needed on a daily basis to welcome visitors to the New Room and help with any questions they may have. You can decide how often you choose to volunteer and, whilst some knowledge of the Wesleys is helpful, you don’t need to be an expert! The most important attributes are enthusiasm, a friendly nature and a willingness to learn and meet new and fascinating people from all over the world!
