Welcome to Charles Wesley’s House, 4 Charles Street, Bristol

Charles Wesley’s Study

It is not known for certain that this was Charles Wesley’s study. The two attic rooms could have been for the family’s servants. Nonetheless it is easy to picture Charles sitting in this room, among the rafters writing his hymns and verse.

Out of the window he would have seen the spires of the city, chimneys of houses and the masts of the many ships docked in the busy harbour.

The fireplace is unique as there are only a few Georgian attic fires known to exist still in England.
