Welcome to Charles Wesley’s House, 4 Charles Street, Bristol

This room was Charles and Sally’s bedroom. Not in this picture is a cradle which is a reminder of Charles and Sally’s children. They had eight children born to them, but only three survived beyond infancy. Infant mortality was common in the eighteenth century because of the prevalence of smallpox.

The curtains surrounding the bed would have provided some shelter from the cold winter draughts.
