Welcome to our new Fundraising Officer, Julia, who introduces herself below:
“Having joined the team as Fundraising Officer a few weeks ago, what has struck me about John Wesley’s New Room? “
“Firstly, I can see I have joined a fantastically committed group of staff, volunteers and wider supporters who enable this special place to thrive. Each member of the team is still very excited to greet our returning visitors. Some of our volunteers have been associated with the New Room since before I was born, and it is an honour to work with them.”
“I have also noticed how vital and varied the New Room is. The tranquility and space for reflection offered by our treasured chapel is so welcome after the trials of the past eighteen months. This can be extended into a learning experience in the museum that helps visitors understand the significance the Wesleys and Methodism still have today. It is very good to see school children enjoying the space as part of their summer holidays. Coupled with a live music experience, or simply coffee and cake in our award-winning café, this is a life-giving place for everyone in the heart of Bristol. “
“Sadly, much of our income was completely cut-off by the lockdowns and our work with a wide variety of visitors has been jeopardised. Though reopen, we will continue to be particularly hard-hit by depressed summer tourism, including the cancellation of American tour group bookings. How we face the opportunities and challenges before us will determine the future of John Wesley’s New Room.”
“My role here will involve securing funds whilst pushing us to become more self-sustaining. There is now a fresh energy to continue our recovery. Will you join us? Every visit, or new ‘Friend’ will help us continue to serve the people of Bristol and visitors from further afield.”
“I hope to meet you at John Wesley’s New Room in the near future.”
