Asbury 250: From Pill To Philadelphia

This year marks the 250th anniversary of Francis Asbury’s historic Atlantic voyage from England to America in 1771. Asbury, who had been commissioned by John Wesley at the New Room in Bristol, journeyed to America to undertake a preaching ministry that led, in 1784, to the establishment of the American Methodist Church and Asbury being ordained as its first bishop.

Events planned at the New Room for 11th and 12th September

Saturday 11th September at 7.30pm – Local band ‘Magpie 22’ will perform a concert featuring a selection of original compositions, covers and spiritual songs reflecting the themes of travel and the sea in an Americana style. The event will be streamed live from our beautiful chapel. No booking is necessary and the event is free to access.

Sunday 12th September at 3pm – Asbury 250 service led by Rev. Dr. Jonathan Pye, Chair of the Bristol District and New Room Trustee. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance through Eventbrite. Book tickets here
